How to add live search to your WordPress site?

If you have thousands of articles, one of the best things you can do for your visitors is to provide a live search functionality which enables them to find specific posts with ease.

Dave’s WordPress Live Search adds live search functionality to your WordPress site. As visitors type words into your WordPress site’s search box, the plugin continually queries WordPress, looking for search results that match what the user has typed so far.

The live search means that most of your site visitors can find the results they are looking for before they finish typing their query, and it saves them the step of having to click a submit button to get the search results.

Adding this functionality to your website is really easy with Dave’s WordPress Live Search plugin.

1) Download the plugin and upload it to your WordPress website;

Download the plugin

2) After the activation go to the plugin’s setting page. In Settings section we suggest you to enter a small number to “Maximum Results to Display” field. If you enter “0”, the plugin will display all the results and it may slow down the search process.

3) In appearance section, you can select to display some additional fields that will be displayed in the search results. Selecting all fields may slow down the search process, so we suggest you to enable only “Display View more results link” field.

In styles section you can select a predefined style or select “Custom” to change the colors individually.

4) To remove the specific pages from live search results, you should enter the permalinks of the pages to the text box in advanced section. You can also change X and Y offset of the search results box to align exactly with your theme’s search field.
